7 Things You Didn't Know About Hemp
1. It's not the same as marijuana-🚭🌿but we understand why you thought that.
They are different varieties of Cannabis sativa L., but are still very different- like how you have a chihuahua and your sister has a great dane. They're both definitely dogs but look and act very differently.
2. George Washington was a hemp farmer! 👨🏼🌾
It's true- even the 1st president of the United States was a big proponent of the plant and had it used to make ropes, shoes, clothing, etc.
3. But ...is it legal? 🤔
We consulted the professionals for this one-
"Section 7606 of the 2014 Farm Bill authorized hemp research and pilot programs by state departments of agriculture and institutions of higher education. Some states have licensed farmers to conduct pilot programs and research on hemp. In 2017 there were 19 states that allowed hemp to be grown. "
So while not all states allow hemp to be grown for manufacture, it is perfectly legal to import the fiber from legalized states or Canada.
4. It's grown...pretty much everywhere 🇨🇰🌍🇨🇺
According to the national hemp association they list-
"Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine...."
Come on USA- time to get on board here!
5. Hemp SAVES water! 💧
Yes, it's true hemp takes only 1/20th the amount of water to grow compared to organic cotton. Talk about a sustainable fiber!
6. And HATES pesticides! 🚫🥀
Just like us, hemp doesn't need pesticides, herbicides, or any other carcinogenic material ruining the health of our soil and water tables.
7. It's a WONDER plant! 🙌🏼🤩
SO many many things to love about hemp, the fact that it's naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial (you can say goodbye to stinky shirts), the fact that it's super strong and long-lasting, and that it gets softer and more comfortable with every wash and wear. Now are you as in-love as we are?
